PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject substance used for production of a photostabilizer for synthetic polymers by subjecting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4- piperidone to reduction amination in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, in the absence of a solvent or in the presence of a small volume of water.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. of formula III is obtd. by bringing the 2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-4-piperidone and the amine of formula I [R is alkyl, when (n) is 1, etc.; R is alkylene when (n) is 2, etc.; R is the group of formula II ((x), (y) are 2 to 6; (z) is 0, 1) when N is 3] into reaction in the presence of the hydrogenation catalyst (e.g.; platinum) and in the absence of the solvent in hydrogen of a pressure of 10 to 80 bar at a temperature of 40 to 100°C in the presence of water of the volume smaller than 10 vol.% (more preferably 6 wt.%) with respect to the reaction mixture. The absence of the combustible solvent contributes to the avoidance of the risk of fire related with the use of an ignitable catalyst and to the increase of the production capability per reactor unit.
