PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals, medicines, dyes, etc. by reacting m-dichlorobenzene with CCl4 and HF in the presence of a catalyst which is fluorides of Sb, B, Ti, Ta, Nb, As V and Bi within a specific temperature range.
CONSTITUTION: (A) m-Dichlorobenzene is reacted with 1.5W10mol, based on one mol compound (A), CCl4 and 9W60mol, based on one mol compound (A), HF in the presence of fluorides of Sb, B, Ti, Ta, Nb, As, V and Bi or compounds, e.g. chlorides, convertible into the fluorides in the reaction system as a catalyst at 80W160°C, preferably 100W150°C in a closed vessel having an agitator to afford the titled substance. The amount of the catalyst to be used is preferably 0.03W0.3mol based on one mol compound (A). The pressure in the closed vessel is 5W100kg/cm2 by the spontaneous pressurizing due to the sealing and heating, and the reaction time is 1W20hr.
