Abstract:

PURPOSE: To selectively and efficiently obtain the subject optically active compound by a simple operation in a short time by hydrolyzing L-lactic ester of racemic exo-norborneol with a lipid digesting enzyme.

CONSTITUTION: L-Lactic ester of racemic exo-norborneol of the formula is mixed with a lipid digesting enzyme (e.g. lipase), water, KH2PO4 and K2HPO4 and hydrolyzed at 30°C for 1 hour while stirring. The reaction solution is extracted with chloroform, the extracted solution is dried with sodium sulfate and purified by flash chromatography on silica using 5% ethyl acetate/hexane to obtain the objective optically active (2S)-exo-norborneol as one of enantiomers.
