Abstract:
To obtain a 3-alkoxymethylcephem of high purity in a simple process with high production yield by electrolyzing and oxidizing 3-alkoxymethylcephem compd. in the presence of a lower alcohol.
A 3-thiomethylcephem compd. expressed by formula I is electrolyzed and oxidized in the presence of a lower alcohol to obtain a 3- alkoxymethylcephem compd. expressed by formula II. In formula I, R1 is hydrogen atom or amino group or a protected amino group, R2 is an aryl group having substitutents, and R3 is hydrogen atom or a carboxylic acid protecting group. In formula II, R1, R2, R3 are the same as in formula I, and R4 is a lower alkyl group. In the electrolytic reaction, a supporting electrolyte is supplied to the reaction system as required.
