Abstract:

PURPOSE: To safely obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for compounds having insecticidal activity in high yield at a low cost by reacting 4-aminopyridine with sodium nitrite in the presence of saturated hydrochloric acid water, oxidizing the reaction product and successively reacting with an alkyl mercaptan.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I is made to react with preferably 1-1.2 times mol of sodium nitrite in the presence of saturated hydrochloric acid water at -10-+50°C, especially 0-30°C to obtain the compound of formula II. The produced compound is oxidized in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and sodium tungstate. The amounts of the hydrogen peroxide solution and sodium tungstate are preferably 1.5-3.0mol and 10-30g per 1mol of the compound of formula II, respectively. The compound of formula III produced by the oxidation reaction is reacted with an alkyl mercaptan in the presence of an inorganic base (e.g., sodium hydroxide) to obtain the objective compound of formula IV.
