PURPOSE: To readily obtain the title compound in high selectivity by the use of an easily handleable solid catalyst by condensing through dehalogenation p-chlorobenzoyl chloride with chlorobenzene in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A metal oxide carrying oxyacid group of element of the group 6 is used as a catalyst and p-chlorobenzoyl chloride and chlorobenzene are condensed thorough dehalogenation at 60400°C, especially 100-300°C to give the objective compound. Zirconia, titania, silica, alumina, hafnium oxide, tin oxide, etc., may be cited as the metal oxide. Sulfate, molybdate, tungstate, etc., is used as the oxyacid group of element of the group IV and zirconia or titania carrying sulfate group is preferably as the catalyst. The amount of the catalyst used is preferably 0.05-1 pts.wt. based on p-chlorobenzoyl chloride.
