Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals in high quality and in high selectivity, by reacting a hydantoin in the presence of an alcohol in a solvent by adding chlorine as a single stage reaction in extremely improved operation efficiency without causing a side reaction.
CONSTITUTION: This compound of formula II such as 5-methoxy-1- methylhydantoin is obtained by reacting a hydantoin of formula I (R1 to R3 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl; R is a 1-6C alkyl) with (B) an alcohol, preferably a 1-6C alcohol in the presence of (C) one of a chain hydrocarbon, a cyclic hydrocarbon, a halogenated hydrocarbon, an ester and an ether by adding (D) a chlorine. The water content in the reaction system is preferably ≤5wt.% based on the total amount of the reaction solution and the amount of the component D used is preferably 1.0-2.0mols based on 1mol of the component A.
