Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a 5,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone derivative by using an electrolyte consisting of a mixed solvent of an org. solvent and water to electrolytically oxidize a 1,4,5,8-tetramethoxynaphthalene derivative shown by the formula. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte consisting of a mixed solvent of an org. solvent (acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran or methanol) and water is prepared. A 1,4,5,8- tetramethoxynaphthalene derivative shown by the general formula is mixed into the electrolyte (where R is hydrogen atom or a 1-20C chain or cyclic alkyl group and may contain a hydroxyl group or an unsaturated group in the molecule). A DC current is then applied to the electrolyte to electrolytically oxidize the derivative.
