Abstract:
PURPOSE: To industrially advantageously obtain acetic acid without using expensive hydrogen by adding an anaerobic acid-producing bacterium to methanol and carbon dioxide, etc., and subjecting methanol, etc., to anaerobic fermentation.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a culture medium necessary for growth of bacterium is added to a raw material consisting of methanol and carbon dioxide or water soluble carbonate and inoculated with an anaerobic acid-producing bacterium (e.g. bacterium of the genus Clostridium or bacterium of the genus Acetobacterium) and the bacterium is anaerobically cultured and the raw material is fermented to provide the aimed acetic acid.
