Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently produce an acicular single crystal of polyoxymethylene, by drying a solution of a starting material in a column to absolute dryness, adding thereto a catalyst and water and reacting the components.

CONSTITUTION: An acicular single crystal of polyoxymethylene is produced by passing a trioxane solution through a column packed with a drying agent such as zeolite or anhydrous calcium sulfate thereby to dry the trioxane to absolute dryness (moisture content below about 0.1ppm), adding 10-5W10-3mol based on the trioxane, of boron trifluoride and below about 1/20mol based on the boron trifluoride, of water, and thereafter reacting the components at about 30W55°C for about 5W50 hr.
