PURPOSE: The reaction of ω-amino-α-carboxyalkane with mercaptoaminoalkane is conducted in the presence of a carbodiimide in an organic solvent using a mineral or organic sulfonic acid as a reaction accelerator to produce acid amide in high yeild.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of an ω-amino-α-carboxyalkane or its alkali or alkaline earth metal salt with an ω-mercapto-α-aminoalkane or its disulfide or mineral acid salt is conducted in the presence of a carbodiimide and a reaction accelerator as mineral or organic sulfonic acid in an organic solvent to produce a compound having amide linkages.
EFFECT: The reagents used in the present invention are inexpensive and the amount of the reaction accelerator is required only about 1/10 of that required in the conventional process using 1-hydroxybenztriazole or succinimide. Further the use of water-containing pyridine or DMF as a solvent increases the yield.
