Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce the title compd. with a general purpose reactor made of an ordinary corrosion resistant material in mild conditions by specifying pH when alkali metal iodate is oxidized with chlorine.
CONSTITUTION: When alkali metal iodate is oxidized with chlorine, alkali is continuously added and pH is adjusted to 7-10. For example, 30.0g sodium iodate is suspended in 120g water, the resulting suspension is heated to 90°C, 92.4g aq. sodium hydroxide soln. having 35wt.% concn. is added during 1hr and chlorine is introduced during this addition while keeping pH at 9.0. At the time when the addition of the sodium hydroxide soln. is finished, the introduction of chlorine is stopped and the reactive liq. is cooled to 30°C.
