Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain α-isomers in high yield in preparation of alkyl-substituted aromatic compounds, particularly of alkyl-substituted naphthalenes.
CONSTITUTION: Aromatic compounds are reacted with alkylating agents having at least 6 carbon atoms at 50 to 300°C in the presence of an alkylation catalyst incorporating porous crystalline zeolite particularly zeolite-β or zeolite-USY.
