Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a high-purity alkyladamantyl ester with a simple operation in high efficiency from an alkyladamantyl ester composition containing a large amount of an alkyladamantyl halide produced by oxidizing adamantanone, alkylating the obtained 2-adamantanone with an organometallic reagent and reacting the product with an acid halide.
SOLUTION: A mixed solution of e.g. methanol and an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is added to an alkyladamantyl ester composition containing >0.5 pt.wt. of an alkyladamantyl halide such as 2-chloro-2-ethyladamantane based on 100 pts.wt. of an alkyladamantyl ester such as 2-ethyl-2-adamantyl methacrylate. The alkali compound is brought into contact with the alkyladamantyl halide in a homogeneous system by this process to convert the halide into a compound which does not generate an acid by heating and decrease the content of the alkyladamantyl halide in the composition to ≤0.5 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the alkyladamantyl ester. The product is distilled to obtain the objective alkyladamantyl ester.
