Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the production yield and efficiency of an α,β-unsaturated nitrile by decreasing the frequency of failure of a pH meter attached to a multi- stage quenching column constituting a step of an α,β-unsaturated nitrile production process, eliminating the erroneous indication and enabling the stable operation of the multi-stage quenching column and the subsequent steps.
CONSTITUTION: This process for the production of an α,β-unsaturated nitrile is characterized by the measurement of the pH of a circulation liquid in a sectional stage placed above the lowermost stage in a multi-stage quenching column constituting a step of the α,β-unsaturated nitrile production process and the control of the pH of each sectional stage of the multi-stage quenching column to 5-6.
