PURPOSE: To obtain an α-olefin copolymer of excellent randomness of copolymerization by using a specified olefin polymerization catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: At least two α-olefins are copolymerized with each other in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst which contains at least one transition metal compound (1) selected from among Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta compounds or contains a vanadium compound (2) and, when used in the homopolymerization of propylene, can give a polypropylene satisfying the requirements: (a) the intensities of peaks ascribable to Tββ, Tβγ and Tαγ satisfy the relationship of the formula in the 13C-NMR spectrum of the polypropylene, and (b) the intensity ratio of Tβγ to Tαγ in the above spectrum is 2 or higher when the catalyst contains compound (1), or is 6 or higher when the catalyst contains compound (2).
