PURPOSE: To produce an Al alloy material having superior wear resistance by locally melting the surface of an Al or Al alloy base material together with Si or Ge to form a hard alloyed layer contg. Si or Ge phase crystallized in the Al matrix.
CONSTITUTION: A shallow groove 2 is cut in the surface of an Al or Al alloy base material 1 and powder 3 of Si and/or Ge fed from the outside of the base material 1 is applied to the groove 2 with a binder, etc., so that the powder 3 is embedded in the groove 2. The surface of the base material 1 is locally melted together with the powder 3 by irradiation with laser beams 4 to form a hard alloyed layer 5 contg. Si and/or Ge phase crystallized in the Al matrix in the surface of the base material 1. The alloyed layer 5 bonds to the base material 1 in one body and does not cause exfoliation at all. A durable Al alloy material having superior wear resistance is obtd.
