Abstract:
PURPOSE: To stably produce an aluminum borate whisker having a uniform size with hardly any contamination by fine whiskers having ≤0.05μm diameter in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An aluminum oxide feeding component and a boric anhydride feeding component are heated at 600-1200°C temperature in the presence of a flux composed of an alkali metallic salt to produce this aluminum borate whisker. In the process, any of a substance selected from the group consisting of transition elements, oxides and salts thereof, ammonia, an ammonium salt, zinc, zinc oxide or a zinc salt is added to the components.
