PURPOSE: To produce an Al-made guide roll excellent in surface property with good productivity by anodically oxidizing many small Al-made pipes housed in a cage like vessel with an acidic solution and chemically coating a part having no oxidized film.
CONSTITUTION: In producing the Al-made guide roll for video tape, plural numbers of the small Al-made pipe 2 of a base stock are housed in a cage like vessel 1 and are pressed with a cap 3 from the top so that the Al pipes in the vessel 1 do not move. The cage like vessel is dipped into the acidic solution such as a sulfuric acid aq. solution and current is applied between the vessel 1 as an anode and a cathode. The many Al pipes in contact with the vessel 1 acts as the anode and after a hard anodically oxidized film is formed on the surface, vary small pores formed on the anodically oxidized film are sealing treated. At the time of forming the anodically oxidized film, the part, which is not in contact with sulfuric acid due to the Al pipes being in contact with each other and on which the anodically oxidized film is not formed, is chromate treated or the like to cover the bared Al ground metal and the Al made guide roll having a hard surface and free from corrosiveness is produced at excellent productivity.
