Title:
PRODUCTION OF AMINE OXIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2998667
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound which is good in both of storage stability and hue stability by reacting an aliphatic tertiary amine having a hydrocarbon group with larger carbon number or branched hydrocarbon group with an excess hydrogen peroxide and subjecting the reaction product to addition treatment with an adsorbent.
SOLUTION: Hydrogen peroxide in an amount of 1.2-3mol is added to 1mol aliphatic tertiary amine of formula I or formula II [R1 is a 12-36C hydrocarbon; R2 and R3 are each methyl, ethyl, hydroxyethyl, etc.; R4 is 12-36C branched hydrocarbon; (n) is 0-11] and the aliphatic tertiary amine is reacted with the hydrogen peroxide in a water-soluble solvent such as methanol at 50-80°C. After finishing the reaction, an alkaline earth metal oxide such as magnesium oxide or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide in an amount of 2-25wt.% based on the aliphatic amine is added as an absorbent thereto and excess hydrogen peroxide is absorbed and removed. Treating temperature in absorptive removal is 30-70°C.
