PURPOSE: To produce an anion exchange resin which scarcely decreases in its adsorptive capacity and forms very few carboxyl groups in the resin even after repeated use/regeneration cycles and has excellent durability.

CONSTITUTION: The process is one for producing a chelate resin by reacting an acrylonitrile/divinylbenzene copolymer with an amino compound under conditions in which the total amount of the amino compound used and water is 1.5mol or above per mol of the nitrile groups, the molar ratio of the amino compound to the water is 0.2-5, the reaction temperature T (°C) is 120-180°C, and the reaction time θ (hr) is represented by the formula: e(4100/T)-7.3≤θ≤3.e(4100/T)-7.3.
