Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain antibacterial/antifungal active substance containing two kinds of new compounds by making peroxidase act on syringaaldehyde in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: The antibacterial/antifungal active substance containing novel compounds of respective formulas II and III can be obtained by making peroxidase act on syringaaldehyde of formula I in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The peroxidase to be used here may be a crude enzyme prepared from horseradish or kidney beans, or a commercially available one. The main reaction product, which presents antibacterial/antifungal activity even in a crude form as it is, can be used directly as an antibacterial/antifungal agent. The product also contains a compound of formula IV as a chief ingredient in addition to the above new compounds of the formulas II and III.
