Abstract:

PURPOSE: To readily obtain the subject compound even under mild conditions according to an industrially excellent method by reacting an aromatic compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a palladium salt, a peroxy acid salt, etc., and a haloalkylcarboxylic acid.

CONSTITUTION: An aromatic compound (e.g, benzene or biphenyl) is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of an organic acid salt and/or an inorganic acid salt of palladium [e.g. Pd(NH3)2Br2 or Pd(OCOC2H5)2], a peroxy acid salt (e.g. ammonium peroxydisulfate) and/or oxygen and a haloalkylcarboxylic acid (e.g. trifluoroacetic acid) to afford the objective compound.
