PURPOSE: To obtain the artificial marble of epoxy resin excellent in translucency, glossiness and smoothness and having a deep appearance by chemically and physically thickening a mixture consisting essentially of epoxy resin, etc., heating and compressing the material with a mold.
CONSTITUTION: A bisphenol A diglycidyl ether type epoxy resin, an acid anhydride, methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride as a curing agent, tetra-n- butylphosphonium bromide as a curing accelerator, carnauba wax as an internal mold release agent and silica as a filler are sufficiently mixed. The mixture is deaerated in vacuum, charged into a triple bag consisting of a single PE bag and a double PVA bag, the bag is completely closed, and the mixture is thickened at specified temp. for a specified time. The mixture is placed in a plate forming metallic mold pretreated with a zinc stearate release agent and heated and compression-molded. The molded body is released from the mold and further cured to obtain the plate.
