PURPOSE: To obtain the subject corresponding hydroperoxide in high selectivity at high reaction rate, by oxidizing an arylalkyl hydrocarbon with ah oxygen- contg. gas in the presence of a metallocene complex catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: This hydroperoxide is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II (P and Q are each H or an alkyl; x is 1-3; Ar is a x-valent aromatic hydrocarbon) with an oxygen-contg. gas (e.g. air) under atmospheric pressure at 40-120°C using a catalyst, a metallocene complex of formula I (R1-R5 are each H, an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl; M is a transition metal; X is a halogen; (n) is 1-4; (m) i s 0-4), as necessary, in the Presence of a basic compound or its aqueous solution. The amount of the catalyst to be used is 0.00001-5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the compound of formula II.
