PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for electrically conductive polymer, without using expensive catalyst, advantageously from economical viewpoint, by using a halogenated arylmagnesium as a raw material and reacting with a halogenated pyridine in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III can be produced by cross-coupling reaction of (A) a halogenated arylmagnesium of formula I (Ar is aryl; X is halogen) with (B) a halogenated pyridine of formula II (R is same or different H, halogen, alkyl, allyl or aryl) at a molar ratio (A/B) of preferably 1:0.5W2.0, especially 1:0.9W1.2, in the presence of 0.1W20mol.%, preferably 0.1W5mol.% (based on the component A) of nickel chloride as a catalyst, in an aprotic solvent at 0W100°C, preferably room temperature W 80°C.
