PURPOSE: To obtain an asymmetrically substd. urea, carbamate, thiocarbamate and a substd. isocyanate with high purities at high yields, by reacting an adduct of isocyanic acid to a tert. amine with a prim. amine or alcohol in an inactive diluent.
CONSTITUTION: An isocyanic acid-terti. amine adduct of the formula, where R1-R3 = each an alkyl, an aryl, an alkyl aryl, an aryl alkyl or R1 R2 R3N = a cyclic amine, obtd. by reaction of a gaseous mixture of the isocyanic acid and ammonia with the tert. amine at 250-600°C, is reacted with a prim. or sec. amine, alcohol, thiol or a compd. having 1-2 non-cumulative olefin double bond (s) in the diluent, e.g. chloroform, toluene or N-methyl pyrrolidone, at -20°C to the b.p. of the diluent under a pressure of up to 20bar.
