PRODUCTION OF AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL FOIL-LIKE CAST SLAB AND THIN SHEET

PURPOSE: To work an austenitic stainless steel into the state of a thin sheet excellent in corrosion resistance and cold pressuring property by coiling a foil-like continuously cast slab of austenitic stainless steel having an Md30 value in a specific range at a temp. in a specific range, removing surface scale, performing cold rolling, and then performing atmospheric annealing and bright annealing.
CONSTITUTION: A molten Ni-Cr austenitic stainless steel where the value of Md30 represented by equation is regulated to 30-50°C is continuously cast, directly, into a foil-like state by using a continuous caster which is a water-cooled twin-drum caster and where the velocity of the wall surface of the drum of continuous caster is synchronized with the moving velocity of a continuously cast slab, followed by coiling at 1200-800°C. Subsequently, the coil of the continuously cast foil-like stainless steel strip is subjected to solution heat treatment, and surface scale is removed by pickling. Successively, cold rolling is performed and then final annealing is performed in the air, and further, the scale resulting from annealing is removed, followed by temper rolling. By this method, the austenitic stainless steel strip having superior workability and excellent in corrosion resistance can be produced by a simplified process.
