PURPOSE: To obtain the title barium ferrite fine powder having excellent dispersibility and showing excellent gloss when formed into a coating film, by using a specified material in the process of cleaning the barium ferrite which is produced by calcining iron compds. and Ba compds. so as to remove the residual salt.

CONSTITUTION: Barium ferrite is produced by calcining iron compds. and Ba compds. (e.g. an aq. soln. of FeCl2, BaCl2, CoCl2, and TiCl4 is dropped to an aq. soln. of NaOH and Na2CO3 to obtain a coprecipitate and then this coprecipitate is calcinated to obtain the ferrite). In the process of cleaning this ferrite to remove the residual salt, an anion surfactant (e.g. 'Demol-P(R)' produced by KAO Co.) is used.
