Title:
PRODUCTION OF BENZENE DERIVATIVE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09263549
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain the subject compound at a low cost and in a high yield, useful as a raw material for a quinazoline derivative by brominating a m- substituted benzene derivative such as 2-nitrotoluene in the presence of a specific compound.

This benzene derivative of formula II or a salt thereof, is obtained by brominating a compound of formula I [R1 is a lower alkyl, a hydroxyl, mercapto, a halogen, a lower alkylthio or a lower alkylamino; R2 is nitro, cyano, a lower alkanoyl, a mono (di or tri) halogenized lower alkyl, carboxyl or a protected carboxyl] or a salt thereof in the presence of a zeolite. A quinazoline derivative of formula V (R3 is a halogen; R4 is a carboxyl or a protected carboxyl) is obtained from the compound of the formula II, e.g. by reducing and fluorinating a compound of formula III, and then halogenating the obtained compound of formula IV.
