Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a compound with a reagent without causing problems in environmental sanitation by reacting benzoquinones with an aliphatic carboxylic acid in the form of a silver salt.
CONSTITUTION: Benzoquinones of formula I (either of R1 and R2 is an alkoxy and the other is an alkyl or an alkoxy; R3 is an alkyl or an alkoxy) are reacted with an aliphatic carboxylic acid of the formula, R4-A-COOH (R4 is H, hydroxy, a halogen or an alkoxy; A is an alkylene) in the form of a silver salt in the presence of an oxidizing agent (e.g. a peroxodisulfate) in an aqueous solvent (e.g. acetonitrile-water) at 60-80°C for 30min to 2hr to afford a benzoquinone- based derivative of formula II. The compound of formula II is useful as a therapeutic agent for improving hypobulia, emotional disorder, allophasis, etc., caused by cerebrovascular disorders such as sequelae after either cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage or cerebral arteriosclerosis.
