Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially and advantageously produce the subject ester useful as a sythetic intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals by reacting a specific ketone with a dialkyl carbonate in the presence of a base.
SOLUTION: (A) A methyl (alkylmethyl) ketone represented by formula I (R1 is an alkyl) is reacted with (B) a dialkyl carbonate represented by formula II (R2 is an alkyl) in the presence of (C) a base (preferably a metal alcoholate) to produce a β-keto ester represented by formula III in which the α-position is methylene group and/or its salt. The component A is then substantially consumed to complete the reaction. The resultant reactional mixture is subsequently further heat-treated in the presence of the component C and (D) an alcohol (preferably at 30-150°C temperature) to decompose an α-acetyl ester represented by formula IV and the heat-treated reactional mixture is then neutralized to afford α β-keto ester.
