Title:
PRODUCTION OF BILLET HAVING NO SEGREGATION IN CENTRAL PART
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6224839
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a billet having no segregation in the central part of a steel ingot by pouring a molten steel into a casting mold and rolling down the steel ingot while a solid-liquid coexistence phase remains therein.

CONSTITUTION: The molten steel is poured into the casting mold and is cooled. The cooling is stopped while the solid-liquid co-existence phase remains in the steel ingot. External force is then exerted to the steel ingot to generate fine cracks to the solid phase C around the solid-liquid co-existence phase and to absorb the thickened liquid B in the solid-liquid co-existence phase into the cracks, by which the liquid phase and solid phase in the solid-liquid co-existence phase are separated. The billet having no segregation in the central part is thus produced.
