PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful for the production of an aro matic polyester having excellent thermal properties and mechanical properties, etc., directly and economically on an industrial scale, by reacting a bisphenol compound with CO2 in the presence of an alkali metal compound and water, under specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula VII (n and m are integer; n+m is 1 or 2) can be produced by reacting the bisphenol compound of formula I (R is -CH2-, group of formula II, formula III, formula IV, formula V, S formula VI, or O; k is 0 or 1) with CO2 in the presence of an alkali metal compound such as K2CO3 and water, for several tens minutes W several hours, preferably 1W6hr, especially 1W4hr at an agitation speed of 100W500rpm under a condition satisfying the formulas 120≤T≤220 (T is reaction temperature °C) and 1≤P (P is reaction pressure kg/cm2), preferably 150≤T≤180 and 20≤P, or 120≤T≤150 and 1≤P≤120.
EFFECT: The objective compound can be produced safely, easily and economically.
