To provide a method for producing a bisphenol compound, capable of efficiently synthesizing and purifying the bisphenol compound useful as a raw material for thermoplastic polymers, surfactants, stabilizers, etc.
This method for producing a bisphenol compound comprises reacting (a) phenol with (b) at least one kind of compound selected from the group of dialkenylbenzenes, bis(hydroxyalkyl)benzenes and (hydroxyalkyl) alkenylbenzenes or (c) at least one kind of compound selected from the group of monoalkenylphenols and mono(hydroxyalkyl)phenols in the presence of an acidic catalyst, neutralizing the reaction mixture containing the bisphenol compound by the use of an anion exchange resin, distilling off the phenol (a) contained in the reaction mixture, and subsequently isolating the bisphenol compound from the concentrated solution.
