Title:
PRODUCTION OF BISPHENOLS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08217713
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the subject method for producing a high-purity bisphenol in high yield, economically advantageous as an industrial production process due to efficient recovery of an unreacted phenol, not leaving an alcohol to inhibit polymerization in a polymerization process such as polyesterification, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon-based solvent (an alkylbiphenyl, an alkylnaphthalene, diphenylmethane, diphenylethane or diphenyl ether) having a boiling point higher than that of a phenol used as a raw material and not containing an alcoholic OH group is added to a condensed reaction mixture of fluorenone and the phenol and an unreacted phenol is removed by distillation. The prepared distillation residue is dissolved in an organic solvent not containing the alcohol OH group (acetonitrile) under heating and cooled to precipitate a 9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene.
