Title:
PRODUCTION OF BLANK MATERIAL FOR INFRARED RAY TRANSMITTING BODY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5645836
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an infrered ray transmitting body of less ligh transmission losses, in the manufacture of a blank material for infrared ray transmitting bodies, by allowing hydrogen to coexist in the raw material gas in a reacting tube and performing plasma generation.

CONSTITUTION: The entry of oxgyen impurites in the chalcogen glass deposited in the reacting tube is prevented. Silicon halide, for example, silicon tetrachloride, etc. and/or germanium halide, for example, germanium tetrachloride, etc., chalcogen element halide, for example, disulfur dichloride etc. and hydrogen are used for the raw material gas. Oxide glass having the coefficient of thermal expansion and softening temperature close to those of the chalcogen glass formed is used for the reacting tube. Microwaves are applied to the raw material gas to allow chalocogen glass to deposit on the inside wall of the reacting tube. The reacting tube is heated and crushed and while its end is being heated, it is spun, whereby the infrared ray transmitting body is obtained.
