Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a block copolymer whose block chain length can be easily controlled, by heating at least two polymers of different structures, selected from among an aromatic polyether ketone, an aromatic polyether sulfone and an aromatic polyether ketone-polyether sulfone in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate.

CONSTITUTION: The title block copolymer can be obtained by heating at a temperature of 150W400°C at least two polymers of different structures, selected from among an aromatic polyether ketone, an aromatic polyether sulfone and an aromatic polyether ketone-polyether sulfone in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate or hydrogencarbonate. Said reaction is carried out preferably in the presence of a solvent in order to effect a homogeneous and to control side reactions, though it can be performed in the absence of any solvent.
