In producing a tappet 1, the graphite 5 formed to a block body for carburizing the outer peripheral surface 2d of a stem part 2a and the powdery graphite 6 for carburizing the groove part 2c inside the stem part 2a are prepared. The graphite 5 formed to the block body has a through hole 5a in the shape along the outer peripheral surface 2d shape of the stem part 2a, the stem part 2a is inserted into the through hole 5a, the graphite 5 is tightly adhered to the outer peripheral surface 2d. The powdery graphite 6 is filled in the groove 2c. At this state, by using a brazing filler metal 4 essentially containing heat treatable copper in the carburizing temp. region, brazing between a tappet main body 2 and a ceramic 3 is performed, at the same time, carbon is impregnated into the surface of the outer peripheral surface 2d and the groove 2c of the stem part 2a.
