Title:
PRODUCTION OF CALCIUM-CONTAINING MAGNESIUM ALLOY CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3318606
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alloy casting having high mechanical strength by melting magnesium or an alloy thereof, removing oxide on the surface of the surface of the molten metal, thereafter adding a specified ratio of calcium thereto, executing mixing and melting, subjecting this molten metal to vacuum deairing under specified pressure for a specified time to remove foreign matters and thereafter executing casting.
SOLUTION: The ration of calcium to be added is 1 to 10 wt.% based on the weight of magnesium or an alloy thereof, the pressure in vacuum deairing is 13.3 to 6,650 Pa (0.1 to 50 Torr), and the time therefor is 30 sec to 20 min. As the raw material, single magnesium may be used, and also, the alloy of Mg-Al series, Mg-Zn series, Mg-Li series, Mg-Al-Zn series, Mg-Zn-Zr series, Mg-Ce-Zr series or the like may be used. The temp. of the molten metal of the magnesium alloy is ordinarily in the range of 700 to 800°C, and foreign matters in the alloy floated up on the surface of the molten metal together with gas contained in the alloy are removed by vacuum deairing treatment, and it is cast into a metal mold. The improvement of the corrosion resistance thereof can be expected as well.
