PURPOSE: To economically manufacture an aluminium can body sheet of desired quality in two sequences of continuous inline processes by subjecting a high temp. hot rolled coil of aluminium material to automatic annealing while holding as it is and then uncoiling, quenching and cold rolling.
CONSTITUTION: In a first inline process, molten aluminium material obtained by a furnace 1 is turned to a strip or a slab by a casting device. The casted material 4 is hot rolled at 600 to 1000 °F exit side temp. by passing the material through a hot rolling stand 6. The hot rolled plate is wound-up around a coiler 7 while being kept at a high temperature state. The coil is held at, or near the exit side temp. for 2 to 120 minutes to execute annealing and soln. heat treatment. Then in a second continuous inline process, the coil at high temp. is uncoiled by an uncoiler 13, the annealed material is immediately and rapidly quenched to a temp. sufficient for cold rolling at a cooling station 8. The quenched material is passed through a cold rolling stand 9 and an obtained cold rolled plate having desired thickness is wound-up by the coiler 12 through a surface inspector 10 and a thickness measuring instrument 11.
