Title:
PRODUCTION OF CARBON FIBER GROWN IN GASEOUS PHASE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6312720
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable mass-production of a homogeneous and high-performance carbon fiber grown in gaseous phase, by using a converter gas as a heat source, utilizing reduced iron derived from iron oxide in the gas as a catalyst and using a converter gas recovery system as a fluidized bed.

CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas line 13 of a converter 1 is connected with a line 21 for introducing a hydrogen-containing gas (preferably coke oven gas), a line 14 for introducing carbon fiber raw material (preferably coal tar produced as a by-product from coke oven) and a line 15 for introducing cooling water and is provided with a gas-liquid separator 6. A decanter 7 is connected to a liquid channel 17 of the gas-liquid separator 6 and the water separated by the separator is introduced through the cooling water-introduction line 15 into the exhaust gas line 13. A separator 8 is connected to a channel 18 connected to the bottom of the decanter 7. A carbon fiber recovery line 19 and a dust recovery line 20 are connected to the separator 8.
