Title:
PRODUCTION OF CARBON FIBER REINFORCED METAL MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0225514
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a metal material having high strength reinforced with carbon fiber by dipping carbon fiber aggregate having the specific density and porosity into molten metal under high temp. condition in a vacuum vessel after cleaning.

CONSTITUTION: As the carbon fiber aggregate, thermoplastic resin or carbon powder of pitch, etc., is added at ≤10wt.% to a material having 5-50vol.% the part of the carbon fiber in the aggregate, 0.1-1.0g/cm2 density and ≤20μm hole diameter, and after forming to the prescribed shape, heating and hardening, this is charged into a graphite, alumina or stainless steel-made heat resistant vessel and burnt and heated at ≥400°C under vacuum of ≤10-3Torr to clean the surface of the carbon fiber aggregate 8. This is charged in the vessel 6 of graphite, alumina, etc., in a heat resistant and insulating vessel 4 and dipped into molten metal 7 of Al, Cu, Ti, etc., heated and melted with the heater 5 to dip the above metal into the carbon fiber aggregate 8. The carbon fiber reinforced metal material having uniformly dispersing carbon fiber and uniform structure and excellent strength is obtd.
