To easily form a complex shape by mixing an aq. slurry of carbon powder with an aq. slurry contg. powder of an org. binder and casting the resultant slurry having a specified water content and a specified viscosity.
An aq. slurry of carbonaceous powder contg. selfsintering carbon powder such as meso-carbon microbeads is mixed with an aq. slurry contg. powder of an org. binder such as phenolic resin and a dispersant in a prescribed ratio to prepare a carbonaceous slurry having 20-4O wt.% water content and ≤500cP viscosity and this slurry is cast. In the case of a cylindrical carbon product, the slurry is poured into a cavity of a nearnet shape or into a gypsum mold with no core, and at the time when deposition is carried out up to a prescribed thickness, the internal slurry is discharged. The resultant molded body is dried, fired and optionally graphitized.
