Abstract:

PURPOSE: To rapidly and efficiently obtain carbon yarn having high strength and high modulus of elasticity, by joining pitch yarn, providing the yarn with a heat-resistant finishing oil, preliminarily infusibilizing in an oxidizing atmosphere containing ozone of high concentration and carbonizing.

CONSTITUTION: Carbonaceous pitch is spun to prepare pitch yarn, which is, joined, provided with a heat-resistant finishing oil, the pitch yarn bundle is continuously and linearly in an extremely short time passed through a continuous preliminarily infusibilizing furnace P1 having an oxygen-containing atmosphere containing ozone of high concentration at high temperature of 130-220°C, preliminarily infusibilized, continuously and linearly passed through continuously infusibilizing furnaces R1-R4 which are connected to the preliminarily infusibilizing furnace P1 in series, has 250-350°C maximum temperature and has an oxygen-containing atmosphere having no oxygen, rapidly heated, infusibilized, then preliminarily carbonized in an inert gas atmosphere, then carbonized and graphitized to give carbon yarn and graphite yarn.
