Abstract:
PURPOSE: To continuously obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for polycarbonate in a high conversion ratio by bringing a specific carboxylic acid as a raw material into contact with a hydroxy compound in a vapor-solid state while transesterifying and removing a formed carboxyic acid ester from the system.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula (I), R1COOR2 (R1 and R2 are a 1-10C alkyl, a 3-10C alicyclic hydrocarbon group or a 7-10C arylalkyl) (e.g. methyl valerate) is brought into contact with a compound of formula (II), R3OH [R3 is a (substituted) aromatic group] (e.g. phenol) while being transesterified in the presence of a catalyst such as titanium tetraphenoxide and a formed carboxlic acid ester of formula (III), R1COOR3 (e.g. phenyl valerate) is continuously removed out of the reaction system to give the objective compound of formula III.
