Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for high selectively producing a carboxylic acid ester or a polyester compound in a high yield with a high catalytic effect and with industrial advantage.

CONSTITUTION: A method for producing a carboxylic acid eater represented by formula RCO2CH2R by dimerizing an aldehyde expressed by formula RCHO (R is an univalent organic group) or for producing a polyester compound by reacting an aldehyde shown by formula OHC-A-CHO (A is a divalent organic group). This method for production of a carboxylic acid ester or a polyester compound is carried out characteristically in the presence of a lanthanoid complex catalyst having cyclopentadienyl ligands which may respectively be substituted.
