Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain carboxymethyl ether salts having a very little insoluble portion to water, capable of enhancing the utilization ratio of etherizing agent to increase the degree of substitution in carboxymethyl groups, by using sea algae as raw materials.

CONSTITUTION: Carboxymethyl ether salts are produced by using sea algae as raw materials. Tengusa(agar agar, Gelidium amansii) or wakame sea weed(Undaria pinnatifida) and the like, which contains a large amount of hemicelluloses of less crystalline content are utilized. These algae are washed, dried and pulverized, and then alkaline agent is added. And finally the above mixture is mixed with a organic solvent like ethanol and etherized by addition of monochloroacetic acid.
