Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce cast-iron hollow component parts, more adequately a cast-iron cylinder liner for piston engines in such a manner that the casting of the cylinder has high strength.
CONSTITUTION: The cast-iron cylinder liner for the piston engines, for which a metal chill mold 1 having a hollow cavity 2 lined with a layer of a hardening molding material or green sand 3 is used, is produced. The melt 7 is poured into the cavity in such a manner that the cooling effect by the chill mold and the liner forms the front end of solidification oriented upward from the bottom.
