Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst with the crystallite of the cerium oxide on alumina reduced in diameter, having a higher oxygen storage capacity than before and capable of depositing cerium oxide on a carrier with good dispersibility.

CONSTITUTION: A suspension of ceric sulfate and alumina powder is added with an alkali, and cerium hydroxide is deposited on the alumina powder surface by hydrolysis. In this case, the liq. reactant is kept at ≤pH2.0 to deposit cerium hydroxide on the alumina powder surface, then the alumina powder with cerium hydroxide deposited on its surface is washed, dried and calcined, and a catalyst carrier consisting of cerium oxide and alumina is obtained.
